What is LegalProject?
A LegalProject is a dedicated workspace organized around a specific legal question, case, or client issue. It serves as a single, unified environment that gathers everything related to that particular matter:
- The Context: All the background documents, evidence, and source files you upload.
- The Artifacts: All the drafts, memos, briefs, and analysis generated by the AI agent.
By bringing these elements together, a LegalProject ensures that the AI assistant works strictly within the boundaries of your specific case, keeping all your data secure, isolated, and perfectly organized in one place.
In this guide, you will learn how a LegalProject works, explore its security boundaries, and discover how to navigate its core components.
LegalProject Security & Architecture
To safeguard client privilege, every LegalProject is structured as an isolated, secure container. When you initialize a project, the system guarantees key safeguards:
- Zero Data Leakage: AI agents operating inside a specific project cannot access documents, notes, history, or context from any other project, maintaining strict ethical walls.
- Tethered Retrieval: The AI's search and reasoning boundaries are restricted strictly to files uploaded to the active project context, ensuring answers are grounded solely in the matter's specific facts.
The LegalPunkt Agent Chat Panel
As you navigate through your workspace, a persistent digital assistant accompanies you via the Agent Chat panel, situated on the right side of the screen. This assistant is not confined to a single view; rather, it remains present across all tabs of the project interface, providing continuity as you move from high-level review to granular drafting.
How the Chat Panel Works Across Tabs
The Agent Chat panel appears as a dedicated sidebar on the right-hand side of the workspace. As you navigate between tabs — for example, moving from the Dashboard to the Contracts tab, then to the Artefacts tab — the chat panel remains visible and your current conversation session continues uninterrupted, preserving your discussion history. The AI agent is aware of the content displayed on whichever tab you are currently viewing, so you can ask it questions about your dashboard metrics while on the Dashboard, then switch to the Context tab and ask about uploaded files, all within the same conversation thread.
Opening and Closing the Chat Panel
The chat panel is fully collapsible. If you need more screen space to focus on the main content area — such as editing a contract, reviewing a timeline, or browsing the artefacts directory — you can close the chat panel using the collapse button. When you want to resume the conversation, click the floating chat icon in the top-right corner of the workspace to slide the panel back into view. Your previous conversation picks up exactly where you left off, regardless of which tab you are on or how many tabs you have navigated through since closing it.
Chat Panel Capabilities
- On-Demand Analysis: Ask the agent questions about the current matter, request summaries of indexed files, or inquire about timeline status.
- Document and Draft Queries: Ask the agent to help draft responses, explain complex legal terms, or pinpoint specific clauses in your project files.
- Adaptive Context: The agent maintains full context of all components in the project, including current metrics, project phases, uploaded files, contract risks, and billing data.
- Cross-Tab Continuity: Because the session persists across tabs, you can start a conversation about a contract risk on the Contracts tab, switch to the Playbooks tab to verify a rule, and continue discussing the same topic without having to restate the facts of the case.
The Lifecycle of a LegalProject
A LegalProject flows alongside your active caseload, serving as the central thread that connects every stage of a matter. Instead of managing fragmented files, emails, and separate invoicing systems, you guide the entire matter from inception to completion within a single, dedicated environment.
The process begins when you establish a project to represent a client matter or transactional file. Once the project is active, you build its factual foundation by uploading relevant documentation—such as prior agreements, correspondence, and evidence—into the project's context. While users cannot upload everything directly to a standard chat session, they can easily upload massive files and folders into the project context. The system automatically processes the material, establishing a secure baseline of knowledge that the AI agent can draw upon.
Collaboration is integrated directly into the project lifecycle. You can share the project with other users, provided they have also purchased LegalPunkt. When shared, the recipients receive a notification containing a direct link to the project workspace. However, control remains centralized: only the designated project administrator has the authority to permanently delete the project or remove users from it.
As the matter moves forward, the workspace supports active analysis, drafting, and risk assessment. You can configure playbooks containing your organization's specific contract guidelines to automatically flag deviations in agreements, extract key terms into a structured matrix, and draft new documents—such as briefs or legal memorandums—directly within the workspace. Every task performed within the project automatically tracks activities in a background billing ledger, ensuring that you can generate accurate draft invoices and close out the lifecycle without manual time-sheet entry.
Detailed Component Reference
Each LegalProject workspace consists of eight tabs that work in tandem. Below is a detailed breakdown of what each component does, how it integrates with the rest of the workspace, and how you use it.
1. Project Dashboard
The Project Dashboard serves as the central command center for the matter, presenting a synthesized overview of the case file. Rather than requiring manual compilation, the AI agent dynamically generates the entire dashboard, including comprehensive case summaries, real-time complexity assessments, expected hours, projected costs, and the project timeline. Additionally, the dashboard acts as a rigorous audit ledger. Every single operation performed by users within the project workspace is recorded here from an audit and compliance perspective. This detailed activity log tracks all necessary actions, providing a complete historical record. The agent also projects a waterfall timeline of the legal phases and critical deadlines, integrated with external calendars to ensure no key dates are missed. Navigating to the relevant workspace is seamless: clicking any audited activity or timeline item redirects you instantly to the corresponding file or component.
2. The Context Tab
The Context tab houses the evidentiary foundation of the project. The files you upload here establish the exclusive factual boundary for the AI agent, ensuring that any subsequent summaries, contract reviews, or pleadings are derived solely from verified files.
- File Directory Grid: Displays all uploaded documents with metadata including name, format (.pdf, .docx, .xlsx, .eml, etc.), size, page count, language, and processing status.
- Source Integrations: Supports local drag-and-drop uploads, direct integrations with Google Drive, MS OneDrive & SharePoint, and case files fetched from the Ukrainian court register (ЄСУД).
- Nested Folders: You can organize documents in nested directories up to five levels deep. This structure allows practitioners to restrict the agent's query boundaries to specific folders, optimizing response accuracy and speed during targeted document reviews.
3. Tabular Views
Tabular Views (Tabular Research) serve as an analytical, dynamic spreadsheet matrix that transforms unstructured documents into a clean data grid, allowing you to compare multiple massive contracts at once and extract all needed, necessary, and required information. It gives you complete control over which files enter the context pool and what exact parameters need to be extracted.
- Custom Sessions & Workbook Templates: You can set up a workspace from scratch or instantly jumpstart reviews using standard Workbook Templates (such as M&A Due Diligence, Confidentiality/NDA Reviews, or Commercial Lease Audits). Custom configurations can also be saved to your organizational library for future reuse.
- Extraction Configuration & Pipeline: You add custom columns by defining data formats (Text, Amount, Date, or Boolean) and writing targeted prompts. The built-in assistant can auto-generate optimized prompts based on your column label. Clicking "Run All" initiates the extraction pipeline to identify legal clauses and variables in real-time.
- The Three-Panel Split Review Interface: Clicking on any row opens a unified, interactive three-panel verification workspace:
- Document Navigator: Displays the active directory of files and their verification status, letting you switch files on the fly without exiting the split-screen layout.
- Parameter Review: Lists all AI-extracted variables alongside confidence scores and agent reasoning. It features three human-in-the-loop interactive actions: a Red Flag Compliance Risk toggle (highlights blocks in amber to alert legal counsel), a Lock Verification State option (protects manually verified fields from bulk AI pipeline overwrites), and a Manual Override edit field.
- Highlight Viewer: Shows a live preview of the original source document. Selecting any parameter in Panel 2 instantly scrolls the document to the corresponding text, highlighting the clause in a warm amber. It includes standard document controls and a "Mark as Reviewed" action to apply a status badge across the workspace.
- Project-Level Collaboration: Because Tabular Research is fully integrated into the project environment, access cannot be shared individually. Instead, you share the entire LegalProject to invite co-counsels, senior partners, or auditors to view the live spreadsheet matrix, coordinate review duties, and verify parameters simultaneously in real-time.
4. The Artefacts Tab
The Artefacts tab is the central document repository for all files generated through your work with the AI agent, as well as documents you upload yourself. Artefacts include court briefs, motions, legal memos, strategy documents, exhibits, AI-generated analyses, research reports, court rulings, and any other legal document your project requires.
- Document Management: Tracks files using a structured grid showing the file name, document type, source, and status (Draft or Approved).
- Native Rich Text Editor: Clicking a document opens an inline, distraction-free text editor. You can format text, adjust alignments, write briefs, and toggle the document’s status. Locking a document as "Approved" prevents accidental edits by other team members.
- ЄСУД (E-Court) Integration: Allows you to fetch official files directly using a case ID. Once your local pleadings are approved, clicking the "Send to ЄСУД" button on their row securely signs and transmits them directly to the electronic court system.
5. The Contracts Tab
The Contracts tab is the transactional counterpart to the Artefacts tab. It is used strictly for commercial agreements (NDAs, MSAs, leases) and focuses entirely on contract compliance and safety.
- AI Risk Highlighting Editor: When you open a contract, the AI reviews it and applies inline color-coded highlights to problematic clauses: Red (high risk), Yellow (moderate risk), or Blue (non-standard terms).
- Bottom Summary Bar: Docked to the editor, clicking any inline highlight focuses this bar on that specific risk. It explains the risk in plain language and displays pre-approved fallback clauses.
- Inline Risk Resolution: You can edit the text directly in the editor to overwrite risky clauses with the AI's suggested text. The AI updates its analysis in real time, removing the colored highlight once the risk is resolved.
7. The Billing Tab
The Billing tab replaces manual timesheets with a passive, AI-driven activity ledger, tracking your work inside the project workspace to calculate billing.
- Automatic Ledger Generation: The system tracks active time spent drafting briefs, reviewing contracts, or conducting research, automatically generating detailed ledger descriptions and duration estimates.
- Ledger Customization: You can adjust the hours, modify task descriptions, set custom billing rates per line item, add offline tasks, or delete administrative lines.
- Currency and Export Controls: Supports USD, EUR, GBP, and UAH currencies with daily updated exchange rates. You can export invoices to CSV, Excel, PDF, or save them directly to Google Drive and OneDrive.
- Opposing Counsel Invoice Audit: Allows you to upload invoice PDFs from opposing parties. The AI audits their line items against standard benchmarks and case files to generate a structured rebuttal report highlighting inflated or duplicate charges.
